New car technologies more sustainable than current biofuels

Bush calls for climate agreement, commits to technology fund
US President Bush on Wednesday called for an international agreement to slow, stop and reverse the growth of greenhouse gas emissions. He also reiterated his commitment of €1.23 billion for an international technology fund to help developing countries finance renewable energy projects.
'EU fails to curb transport emissions'
Rigorous measures are required to meet ambitious greenhouse gas standards in the transport sector. Next to technological solutions, behavioural changes are also needed. A new report by the European Environmental Agency (EEA) gives an inventory of 'challenging but realistic targets'. Read more
OECD: large emission reductions to low costs
The organisation of richer countries in the world, OECD, foresees that a substantial decrease of global greenhouse gas emissions can be achieved at very moderate costs. The earlier the start and the more countries would participate, the lower the costs, says the 2008 OECD Environmental Outlook. Read more
Third global renewables conference faces a boost
This week, the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference started, with more than 2000 participants. The follow-up of earlier global conferences in Berlin (2004) and Beijing (2005) intends to establish an Action Program with clear targets for the growth of renewable energy. Read more
Council approves energy and climate package again
On Monday the Council of Environment Ministers in the EU has largely approved the Climate Action package of the European Commission. However, most Member States would like to see more flexibility in achieving the targets by executing projects outside of the EU.
EU Energy ministers welcome climate energy package
EU energy ministers praised the European Commission for its ambition during a debate on the climate and energy package on Thursday. Several member states called for a quick deal with the European parliament by the end of this year. Read more
